Kyoto is a tribute to the essential elegance of Japanese-inspired design and the material richness of solid wood, enhanced by its refined interlocking construction. Designed by Gianfranco Frattini in 1974 and reissued by Poltrona Frau in 2020, the table turns its construction concept into the very essence of the design. The absence of decorative elements highlights the purity of the raw material, while Canaletto walnut inserts provide structural reinforcement with a precise function. Crafted with skill and deep knowledge of wood, Kyoto is part of the permanent collection at the Museo del Design at the Triennale di Milano.

Description

The Kyoto table is available in two sizes: 102x102 cm with a height of 32 cm and 102x49 cm with the same height. The structure, top, and legs are crafted from extra light solid beech wood and offered in two finishes. The first version features natural extra light beech wood with solid Canaletto walnut inserts at the ends of the boards of both the top and legs. The second variant is finished in matt black lacquer (RAL 9005) with red lacquered inserts (RAL 3002) at the ends of the boards. The wooden slats are joined using 45° dovetail joints, forming a refined square pattern. All surfaces are protected by a transparent matt varnish. The legs, designed with a distinctive cross structure, can be easily removed and repositioned as desired. A unique detail is the laser engraving of the Poltrona Frau logo and the designer’s signature on one of the faces of the leg supports.
