Asterias, a cactus plant native to the mountainous regions of Mexico, gives its name to this new project by Patricia Urquiola. The generously sized round table features a central base resembling the cactus, made up of six curved wooden panels in wedge shapes, cantilevered onto the central plinth. The panels are crafted using the innovative 3D molding technique. The top, available in 160 or 180 cm, with rounded edges, is divided into four segments, creating an interesting geometric design. The table also includes a practical accessory: a central Lazy Susan, highly appreciated in Asian countries.

Description

The Asterias table, designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2016, features a central base made of six curved wood panels applied cantilevered onto a central plinth. These panels are made using 3D molding techniques and are available in finishes of Eucalyptus, Sunrise Oak, or Graphite Oak. The table top, with a rounded edge, is available in two sizes (160 or 180 cm) and is made from MDF covered with wood veneer. An 85 cm diameter Lazy Susan, finished to match the table top, is also available, particularly appreciated in Asian countries. The base consists of an iron structure with counterweights in concrete, while the external block is made of curved beech plywood panels, covered with wood veneer

The brand is distinguished by innovative design, continuous research, and the adoption of advanced production techniques, supplying furnishings for museums, hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, with collaborations from renowned designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Jean Nouvel, and Hannes Wettstein. Molteni&C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro career award in 1994 and 2020, awarded by ADI (Association for Industrial Design). Since 2012, in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives and under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, it has exclusively reissued several iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, intended for private residences, special projects, or limited editions, faithfully respecting the original designs.
