Description
An innovative blend of design and art, created for a wide audience, this armchair became an emblematic object of B&B Italia's technological expertise in injection-molded polyurethane. Among the most significant pieces is the UP5_6, featuring clear anthropomorphic references that evoke the image of a maternal womb and prehistoric fertility goddess votive statues. A distinctive feature of the chair is the sphere, which acts as a pouf attached to the main body, creating the figurative image of a woman with a ball and chain. As Pesce explains, the design is a personal expression of his concept of women, symbolizing both imprisonment and freedom. The armchair is also available in a junior version for children aged three and up, faithful to the original but reduced in size. Completing the series is the UP7, a sculptural “foot” made of painted polyurethane, an oversized archaeological fragment. The Up Series, designed in 1969, won the XXVII Compasso d’Oro ADI 2022, Career Product Award.
